Armed robbery reported near Perkins Library

An armed robbery occurred Sunday night at 10:00 p.m. between Perkins and Bostock Libraries, according to a Duke Alert sent at 10:19 p.m.

The suspect is described as a black male—5 feet 7 inches with a medium build, 160 to 170 pounds and 20 to 30 years of age, according to a Duke Alert email sent at 10:28 p.m. He was wearing a black jacket, black pants and bandana over his face and carried a silver handgun.

"Everyone is pretty freaked out," said junior Chandler Thomas, who was working at the circulation desk in Perkins at the time of the incident. "I've never heard of that happening [near Perkins], and I was here over the summer when the [Duke Gardens] robberies happened."

Thomas ran to open the ground floor entrance to Perkins opposite Bostock when the two victims banged on it from the outside.

Police on site declined to comment until the victims had been completely interviewed.
