Sarah Schroth named Director of the Nasher Museum of Art

Sarah Schroth was announced as the director of the Nasher Museum of Art on Thursday.

Schroth, currently the Nancy Hanks Senior Curator at the museum, has been serving as interim director since November. The previous director, Kimerly Rorschach, left to take the position of president at the Seattle Art Museum after eight years at the Nasher.

“I’m delighted to have this opportunity to lead the Nasher in what promises to be a very exciting time in its history, as we approach its 10th anniversary celebration in 2015, undertake new initiatives in undergraduate education and expand the scope of our exhibitions,” Schroth said in a University press release.

The decision to appoint Schroth was the work of an 11-person committee, chaired by Richard Powell, the John Spencer Bassett Professor of Art, Art History and Visual Studies. The official announcement was  made by President Richard Brodhead.

Schroth—an expert on 17th century Spanish art—has been at Duke since 1995. As director, she will be the Nasher’s chief executive officer and will report to Provost Peter Lange. 

"I am thrilled with the selection of Sarah as director of the Nasher,” Lange said in the press release. “She has been a superb curator."
