The Group of 88

The "Group of 88" consists of 88 professors who placed an ad commenting on Duke's culture in The Chronicle. The ad, placed April 6, 2006, called Duke's culture a "social disaster" and contained quotes from anonymous students about the negative aspects of the social scene at Duke. "The Group of 88"--what the bloggers have dubbed the signatories--has been vilified by many and accused of being unsupportive of the University and the lacrosse team. Some professors who signed the ad say they only wanted to create a discussion on campus about how Duke can improve its culture.
